I recently heard a performance by a recorder consort which piqued my curiosity. The Aulos is an inexpensive, good looking entry. The tone is quite good, assuming I do my part. That is the area where I cannot evaluate the instrument. I have sometimes have problems getting my fingers in exactly the right position to get a clear sound in the correct register, with the precise breath control to stay on pitch. However, I think this may apply to all recorders and not the Aulos in particular.

I love this recorder! I had used a friend's Aulos and fell in love with it, so I bought my own. A slightly different model, I think I like this one better. It has a very clear tone and it speaks very well in all registers. The beauty of the lower range is what really makes this instrument sparkle.

Great head, good sound and thick, durable head for heavy hitters.



I had the stock remo coated head on my PDP Snare (14x5), for about a week and it tore right through the middle. Looked like a piece of paper when I took it off.



Also on the old head it was way to snappy for me, almost annoying.

Once I got this head on and tuned up, it brought the level down, but still crisp and high, I am in love with this head so far (about 2 weeks in).



I read this other guys review and was a little skeptical, because "he knows how to tune a snare". But being a thicker head and a fan of Evans I gave it a try.



Once I got it on a started tuning it, it did sound a little low, but I kept stretching and tuning and it sounds great now. I felt like I tuned it a little high, but it sounds nothing like a tom at all.



I just wanted to throw that out there, because apparently the guy didn't know what he was doing. And re-assure people that this is a great sounding head, if you're looking for a really snappy sound, I probably would find a different one, but if you want a nice crisp snare that's not over the top check this head out.



Especially if you're a hard hitter, since this is thicker than most heads.

The Steve Smith Tala Wands were conceived when Steve began playing with drummers from India and needed a way to blend with their sounds and be sensitive to lower volume levels. Other bundles worked as far as volume was concerned but they lacked the rebound he preferred. As a result, Steve helped develop two unique and tremendous tools now among the Vic Firth line of Rute and brushes:The bamboo Tala Wand (TW11), with the purple handle, has a foam center surrounded with 11 bamboo dowels that are wrapped in thin PVC. The wands have great balance while naturally producing a lower volume with great rebound. The purple TW11 feels slightly smaller than the yellow TW12, yet the TW11 tends to have a little more weight because bamboo is heavier than birch. The bamboo is extremely durable. Steve uses this Tala Wand more for lower volume groove playing. 15-15/16" long, .585" diameter.The birch Tala Wand (TW12), with the yellow handle, has a foam center surrounded with 12 birch dowels that are wrapped in thin PVC. This stick has outstanding rebound and sound. While the shaft of the yellow TW12 is thicker than the purple TW11, the weight of the 12 birch dowels on the TW12 actually has a lighter feel and helps create a lower volume than the bamboo Tala Wand. This is a nice practice pad for good old rudiments and has a good material. It has a great bounce effect. This can really help you if you are starting drummer as if you are a professional drummer. But it has some flaws. To start this product is not the one from the picture. in the picture we see a 35cm or 40cm practice pad. the one i got is 15cm. so yes is a lot more smaller. And that can bring you some problems. Also is all the material. where it says "vic firth" that is on black plastic. And this pad we see in the picture that i have had the chance to play features a double side that you can play in and the one is sold does not have that. The material that you can play in is kind of loose, so maybe you would have to reinforce it. So in the end Is good, you can practice a lot of different techniques and it will improve your drum speed and skills so is kind of what you asked.

 "Shattered during the first set" 2010-01-04

I was hoping these nylon-based sticks would have great durability, however the joint where the bristles are connected to the stick shaft is very high on the stick, and is very brittle. This joint cracked and shattered within an hour of moderate usage during a live set.



I did like the solid wood design and handle grip, so I'll give it 2 stars and recommend it only for light playing. As for myself, I'll go back to using either the original Hot Rods or Lightning Rods.



Hopefully, an S-Rods 2.0 will be produced with a better design, in which case I'll likely try them again.
