 "Portably Comfortable" 2008-12-01

Great for working on chops or speed. Relatively compact, but a little on the heavy side. Also, the rubber side is gray, not white.

 "great chop builder" 2008-04-23
By E. Litteken
I used my HQ RealFeel hack pad for over 6 years. I dropped it numerous times and was pretty rough on it. The black side is the only side I use, as it has given me great chop building. I'd only play on the other side when I got into the hard fast rudiments that you need to play off the bounce to do. I've played drums for over 12 years and taught for a half year (now with the Army so it's a bit hard to teach anymore). I would recommend this product to anyone. Also I have never had any problem with it wobbling when I play. If you just beat on it, it's obviously going to wobble. And I would NEVER mount it on a cymbal stand, maybe on a snare stand.....

"Broke in 5 min of playing" 2007-12-30
By Aaron Trejo
It is necessary to mount the pad on a stand as it wiggles around if you try to play it on a flat surface. I mounted it on a cymbal stand and played it for a min, it came a little loose, so I tightened it. Happened again and again, before I knew it the thread was pushing the middle of the pad above the playing surface. So now I'm stuck with a half an inch lump in the middle of the pad.

I gave it 2 stars because while it worked, it felt and played great. I'm not sure if I had a defective product but I'm definitely not purchasing another HQ pad.

 "The Speed King" 2010-02-27
By M. Saul-Bolger (California-Fresno)
I use a Yamaha Flying Dragon (Direct Drive) set of twins for my two bass drums with that kit. But on my Ludwig Bonham Amber Vistalite I use the Speed King. I also have a 70's original Speed king in my Living room china Cabinet. Basically there is not much difference between the two. Same weight and action. I like a direct drive pedal as opposed to chain(Cams) or straps. On my Ludwig kit I find myself backing my foot off the pedal and droping it down and mainly working it with the ball of my foot for the fast response. So far is has held up fine, but if it breaks I will probably want another one because for the single bass action I really enjoy it! The Yamaha pedals like much of todays modern pedals are heavier and are a kind of different thing I think. On my 24" Maple kicks I would use those actually. But for the felt beater and a 26X14" kick the speed king is a groove!

 "Me and the King" 2009-12-05

I'll second that reveiw, sure it's an old design and it squeaks like a rusty door hinge, check it out on "Since I've Been Lovin' You" on Zepplin III by Zepplin, the squeak that is, and you can clearly hear it. But there is nothing, nothing that feels quite like it on this planet anyways. Every other pedal comes up short, my Speed King and I are best friends. Hook it up to your bass drum and give it a good hard kick and you'll know you've got something by the tail. Those twin compression springs start humming and god is in his heaven and the world is alright again, I wish everything was this easy.

"Best Pedals I've ever Played" 2009-03-21
By N. Smith (Washington Coast USA)
First off, I gave this 4 stars because I haven't played this particular pedal. I used to play an original Speed King (wish I still had it!)and there's a reason it's called a SPEED King. Easy to play, easy to do quick "skips",(like a double bass) and easy on the shins! I LOVE Speed King pedals, and there are a lot of other drummers that swear by them. There's nothing fancy about them, they're just GREAT pedals..the best in my opinion, and I've played quite a few. I used to almost CHERISH that pedal! You could switch drum types etc, but the pedal STAYS! For what it's worth...excellent pedal and I highly recommend Speed King!

 "Great product!" 2009-02-26
By Jeremy Stenger (Texas)
I've never owned a drum pad before, but this is definitely a good product. It has much bounce on the grey side, like a real marching snare, and a little less on the hard black side which really helps build your chops. Over a very good buy.

"Everything, I expected and more" 2008-07-11
By K. Rogers (Delaware)
So, I am a beginning drummer. I really only want to learn how to play rudiments and increase my rhythm and speed. The pad is perfect. The grey side is SO quiet, you can play it with other people in the room and not annoy them. This side is made out of a "soft" rubber has a lot of bounce to it, A LOT. The other/black side is made out of a "harder" rubber, and has less bounce, but still enough. This side is also louder, i think of it as making a "tick" sound....this side could annoy people.

The grey side I use, when i want to be discreet of play along with a metronome or song. The other side is when you actually want to produce a sound. Highly recommended for a practice pad. I can't imagine many people not likely this product, but maybe serious drummers have a different POV than I.
