I really like this pad. It arrived promptly, and when they say "real feel" they mean it. It has 2 sides, so you can decide how YOU want to practice. It is kinda weighty but it is still a great pad. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Excellent feel, very well constructed" 2008-11-19
By A. GONZALEZ MEDINA (MONTERREY, NL Mexico)
This is an EXCELLENT practice pad. I got this size because the smaller sizes (other brand) were not available at the time, but let me tell you this is a perfect size for practicing.

The feel of both sides is great and pretty realistic (soft on one side, hard on the other). It's very quiet too. This HQ practice pad is NOT made of MDF or wood, it's made of some pretty strong resin, so it will last for years.

If you're looking for an excellent product (pro feel with excellent value), then get this pad.

 "HEAVY but awesome" 2005-04-19
By ilove25or6to4
This pad is HUGE... get the 6 inch one. It will weigh you down otherwise. You wouldn't believe how heavy the 12 inch pad is. Also extremely not portable. The 6 inch one is the perfect size.

Aside from that, the two different sides are awesome. One is silenced and easy to bounce on, and the other one is better for cleaning up your playing and is a little louder. I also like how it has no rim like my piece of junk old practice pad.

Get the 6 inch version of this and you won't be sorry.

"Great Bass Drum Practice Pad" 2009-02-18
By J. Allgood (Atlanta, GA United States)
Overall, this pad is very sturdy, and certainly provides realistic feedback while remaining relatively quiet. The only negative is in the method that the pedal mates up to the pad. The bar where it clamps on is on an adjustable swivel, but the wing nuts don't stay all that tight under use so the pedal will tend to rise up a little in the middle. Overall though, this is still a great pedal and I would recommend it.

"Perfect for getting to 16th notes on single pedals" 2004-12-03
By Victoria Tarrani (Betwixt FL and CA, USA)
My motivation for purchasing this pad was the segment on single pedal exercises and technique in John Blackwell's Technique, Grooving and Showmanship DVD (ASIN B00008K9HV). If you haven't heard or watched Blackwell, he is incredibly fast on a single pedal, so his tips were important.

What is good about this pad is it does not have the same rebound as most bass drums, making you work a bit harder during practice. It will work with single or double pedal configurations, and folds down to get out of your way when you are not using it.

I practice by first spending an hour using the exercise technique Blackwell recommends, which is to sit without a pedal and do quarter notes with your right foot, heel down, and rocking your left foot so that your toe is down on 2 and 4. This exercise builds calf strength and also locks in basic timing. Next I spend an hour on this pad with a single pedal, starting with the same pedal-less exercise I just described, then working to 16th notes. Sometimes I use a muted hi-hat for my left foot. I focus on both speed and accents with this pad, and I also have a piece of heavy cloth over the strike area to dampen the small amount of rebound this pad has to make me work harder. The dampening is akin to using pillows for stick practice - when you practice without any rebound your speed dramatically improves when you get on your set and play.

Of course, this pad is also an outstanding general practice tool that works well when you are using mesh heads and cymbal mutes, or a practice pad set.

This Tru-Bounce Practice Pad provides an active playing surface of specially selected neoprene for a true and accurate response. Comfortable to play on without the overly-springy feel of traditional gum rubber. Even at the softest volumes, each stick note is articulated and can be heard. The result is a more accurate rebound that helps to develop control, strength, and speed. It makes you work a little harder (but not too hard) when practicing. Enclosed with the Tru-Bounce pad is a free pair of Power-Sleeve 5A drumsticks. Also included is a teacher-approved rudiment sheet and two fact sheets by Roy Burns, which cover some warm-up exercises and tuning tips.

 "Good stand, questionable pad." 2008-09-24
By Christopher L. Canfield (Boston, MA)
I've used several practice pads over the years. This one I held onto for about 6 months before giving it away to someone on craigslist. The pad noise and feel were just so off as to be unusable.

The allure of a practice pad is drumming without annoying your neighbors. At this, the Remo practice pad fails spectacularly. The pad is really, really loud. The head is as loud as a regular drum with a cheap muffler on it. The rim hits are pretty loud too. And the stand drives this sound straight down to your downstairs neighbors. Most anything else you've been hitting our sticks against will be quieter than this, including books, chairs, mousepads, standard cheap rubber practice pads, etc.

In terms of size, 10" is barely a popcorn snare. This is significant because the edges stick up a great deal: far more than most drum sets I've used. In certain ways this is helpful to develop your targeting, but it also means that you're constantly whacking the edges and cursing instead of focusing on technique. Frankly, I found rim hits to be a constant annoyance.

The feel is hard to quantify, but all of the remo practice pads that I've used just "feel" close but off. It feels like someone stuffed a pillow as tightly as they could into a snare. The rebound style is good, but there is a deadness to it that just feels wrong. While it is helpful to have an adjustable drum head, it never quite gets right.

The stand, on the other hand, has been pretty solid and nice to have. I could see transitioning the stand into a real drum set, albeit holding something light.

Overall, the resounding loudness, weird rebound issues, and annoyingly large rim make it hard to recommend Remo's higher priced pads over traditional rubber ones. For basic paradiddles and other practicing in real-world circumstances, I'd recommend going with one of the many other available options.

"nice sound and feel, good price" 2008-04-22
By Robin Lapre (tenn)
This practice pad was recommended to me by my son's drum instructor. It has a very nice feel (bounce) to it, and the sound is WAY better than listening to a snare drum all night. The price offered by Amazon for both the practice pad and the stand was very good (I believe about $45.00). In some stores, just the pad alone is about $32.00, and you'll definitely want the stand (any hi-hat stand will probably work). There are varying sizes and you will probably want the biggest size, which I believe is the 10 inch - just to give yourself a few different targets while practicing. Set up was extremely easy.

"Bass Pedal Excercises Without The Loud Volume" 2009-10-10
By Frank (Seattle)
I live in an apartment complex with retired people and I love to practice on my drums. However, I do not own a bass drum yet (just a pedal) but felt I needed to practice my hand and foot coordination. This pad has come in very handy for that purpose and does not disturb my neighbors whatsoever. I have an inexpensive Ludwig pedal that fits on the pad a little goofy but it works. I strongly recommend this pad to anyone who needs to practice his bass drum techniques in an area where noise and vibration must be kept to a minimum. So far it has done no harm to my carpet. There is velcro on the bottom and I have retracted the spurs.

 "Perfect drumming isolation" 2008-06-07
By Natter (North Carolina, USA)
I got one of these only because my 4-year-old son, who also drums (on a great Gretsch Catalina Club kit), was forced to wear ear protection (the Peltor 90554 Junior Earmuff, Blue) and I wanted him to learn by example. Surprisingly, these ear muffs really let the drum sound through (I had been using Remington shooting muffs which let nothing through). I like them so much that even when I'm practicing alone, I keep them on.

Very comfortable on my big Herman Munster head, and rarely do I feel the need to remove them (unless I'm doing brush work on the drums).

I recommend these without reservation.

--------Update at 1 year-------

Still love these things. The only time I have to move one of the ear muffs off of my ear is when I'm jamming with a bass player and guitar player, and the guitarist EQs to a lower frequency. I can still hear the drums just fine, but the bass and guitar blend in the sound spectrum, so I need to free an ear to try and catch higher frequencies.

I have a friend who is a professional drummer who comes over, and I go to guitar or bass. He insists on wearing these every time he comes over, and has asked to borrow them for gigs. He's Dominican and plays with Latin bands, and finds that these isolation headphones pull his kit's sound away from the other percussion on the stage. In my studio, I sometimes need to wear headphones to absorb his heavy hitting, but then I can't hear my guitar. As such, I've had to buy another pair.

Really a great investment if you need to hear what you're doing on the drums with a room of other instruments fighting for parts of the sound frequency spectrum.

"Warning: bag not as pictured" 2009-09-17
By Yong Bakos (Denver, CO USA)
The pad and stand are great. However, the photo makes it look like there's an all-in-one carrying bag that holds the pad and the sticks. The product I received had a *very* cheap bag for the pad and a cheap, large wide bag for the stand. There is no bag for the sticks.

 "Great for Practicing!" 2009-08-04
By yanny (FL USA)
I am a music enthusiast! I am learning the piano and drums at the same time. A percussionists told me to practice on a drum pad. This drum pad set was so cool for me! It came with a stand, sticks, and was good quality. It was easy to set up and had a cool carrying case. I enjoy practicing drumming techniques I learn from my teacher. It helps me to stay focus, and practice proper rhythm and strokes. I enjoy my drum pad!

"a most useful practice pad" 2008-09-18
By James Armstrong (San Jose, CA USA)
I'm a jazz pianist by training and profession who has recently begun work on drumming issues. This little practice pad has met my expectations, as I have no need for a full set. The pad/stand assembly is very stable and sturdy, and the pad itself has excellent "rebound" action, which approximates a ride cymbal. The sticks that are included are size 5A, which are a bit large for me, so I bought some jazz sticks and am using those instead. I'm working on rudiments, 3 against 4 cross-rhythms, and press-rolls which are an extension of my work as a pianist. After a short time, I've been able to go into drum stores and actually make music, which is surprising, after all of these years at the piano. Kudos to the manufacturer for this fine product.

 "High-quality practice head" 2009-12-30
By Lynda A. Dietz (USA)
This has a nice feel to it, very similar to a real drum head. It's also large enough to use comfortably. It can also be tuned as it begins to show its age.

We're happy with the practice pad itself, but it took quite a long time to arrive (I ordered it December 9 and it didn't arrive until December 22). It was shipped via Priority Mail with a shipping label dated December 10 (did they label it and not ship for almost two weeks?). We received no notice of it being backordered or delayed.

Shipping issues aside, the pad itself is very nice quality, and the price through Amazon was the best we found.

 "Nice Rebound" 2008-11-05
By Shalla DeGuzman (Bamberg, Germany)
Good to practice on, especially if you're just starting out because it's a lot quieter than a real drum. It's my first one, I'm new to this, so I wonder if it's supposed to get scuff marks easily.

It would be nice if it came with a stand.

"too loud for a practice pad" 2008-06-21
By V. Bulakh (Canada)
while its much quieter than a real drum, its still much too loud for a practice pad. If you're living with someone I suggest you get a pad with a rubber surface, i found those to be exponentially quieter, and they feel just as great.

I think the type of plastic used contributes to the loudness, its hard and fragile, and it feels a bit cheap. I'm not surprised the rim won't last long if you do rimshots on it.
