I can see why so many people recommend this pad, especially the double-sided version. The lighter side is quieter yes, and provides more bounce than the darker side, but the darker side is great for practicing those power hits and hearing everything you hit clearly and pronounced. I personally use both sides of this equally, as they both provide a level of practice in their own separate ways. The wood base is also thick and sturdy, yet the whole thing is lightweight. Perfect

This pad is amazing! you can barley hear the grey side and the black side is not loud at all. if you do rim taps then its loud but other than that its amazing!

I got this pad for my birthday last october and to this day it has the same out-of-the-box feel. I mostly use the lighter colored side, in fact, i only really use the lighter colored side, the other side is harder than the lighter side so it gives more bounce, but even when i got this pad i used the light side. Plus the light side is much quieter than the dark side. I've always used it to warm up being shows or anywhere really. And its quite small so i always keep it with me. If i have ever some free time i pull out my sticks and play with the pad. I just wish it came with a small portable stand! oh well. I completely recommend getting this pad.
