Vic Firth SIH1 Stereo Isolation Drummers Headphones are designed to protect musicians from the high sound levels associated with their instruments.Prolonged exposure to these excessive levels of noise can have traumatic and lasting effects, including hearing fatigue, tinnitus and permanent hearing loss. These are specially designed headphones, which drastically reduce the level of external sound reaching the musician's ears, offering valuable protection from potential damage. The SIH1 reduces overall noise levels by 24 decibels and features high quality stereo headphones. Unlike non-isolation headsets, where musicians typically crank the volume to very high and potentially damaging sound levels in order to hear the music clearly, the SIH1 reduces ambient noise from the instruments. This allows the musician to play along with the recorded music or monitor other performers in a live situation at comfortable and safe sound levels.Designed in conjunction with Vic Firth Signature artist Rod Morgenstein, these headphones were made with the recording, performing and teaching musician in mind! When asked about the SIH1's, Rod commented, 'The concept of these headphones has changed my musical life! After years of using open air headphones in studios and practice at volume levels that were damaging my hearing - I can now use these new headphones for hours on end with no fatigue at all, and with no risk of hearing damage since I can listen at a comfortable volume level.'

These headphones do the job of isolating the external sound. As a drummer they allow my to hear the tunes while playing along with new tunes. However, the framework is difficult to adjust. The wires that adjust for size are very thin and the head pad in top is not very padded. They feel like 1970's stereo headphones. Still a decent product that I would recomend for any ony wanting to play along to music while drumming.

Virtually eliminates all outside sound, allowing you to dial in a comfortable volume during rehersal and recording sessions. Nice, flat response.

These are excellent!!! I havn`t used them for studio work yet, but i have used them for hours of metronome/play along to CD sessions.
They fit comfortably, sound great, and oh yeah.....THEY FREAKIN WORK GREAT TOO!!!
In my humble opinion they are worth every penny spent on them.

I was in a graduate music program working on jazz drumset, and I had to practice along with a metronome and an ipod for 3 to 4 hours a day for about 2 years. They worked great for everything I was working on. Even when I would work on playing as loud as I could playing along with rock bands, I could still hear the music. Now, I'm having trouble with the cables, One side isn't making a very good connection somewhere around where the cable connects to the headphone. That bums me out since they don't really look like I can easily take them apart to fix them without breaking them. I also used to wrap up the cord after every practice session, so that my have taken it's toll on it as well. All in all, I can't complain too much since they were a great set of headphones day after day for over 2 years. They are also pretty comfortable, even after extended practice sessions.
My only real complaint is the cable, since it's so springy, it can be a bit awkward. I used to use an extension for the cable and that also helped.

All I wanted were headphones to reduce the horrible, loud music in my gym. Koss noise-cancelling headphones didn't do it. And I didn't want to spend $300 on Bose headphones. So I took a chance on these after reading the reviews. Success! While listening to my ipod with these headphones, I don't hear the music in the gym at all. The main issue is the tightness on the head, since these are not battery-powered (another plus). They don't use the white-noise technique. They fit tightly on the head. I recommend them if you want to reduce unwanted noise.
